-A Special Performance of Sankyo Yanagiya & Young Stars' Gathering-

The summer Shikisaitei will feature a guest appearance by Sankyo Yanagiya, a major performer in Tokyo’s rakugo scene, as well as energetic young performers such as Koheita Yanagiya, who will be making his first appearance, Miyaji Katsura, who is on the way of being promoted to shinuchi, and Keiki Hayashiya, who was born in Ogawamachi, Hiki-gun. Let’s spend a cool and refreshing afternoon with the neat and tidy performance of Master Sankyo! Please enjoy the softness and elegance of the world of Rakugo.

Sankyo Yanagiya

1948: Born in August, Sumida-ku, Tokyo 1967: Began studying under Yanagiya Kosan the fifth, the name of his stage name was 「Koina」 1972: Promoted to Futatsume, changes name to「Sankyo」 1981: Promoted to Shinuchi 2006: Appointed as Executive Director of Rakugo Kyokai

◆1984: Awarded the Gold Prize at the National Engei Hall ◆1986: Awarded the Japan Art Festival Prize ◆1994: Awarded the Newcomer’s Prize at the 11th Asakusa Engei Grand Prix ◆2013: Awarded the 63rd Ministry of Education in the Art Encouragement Prizes ◆2017: Awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon

He learned straight from his master, Kosan the fifth, and established his own style of classical Rakugo. His neat and elegant performance was precise and gentle, creating a world of Rakugo between him and the audience. He is also the head of his group, which currently has 11 disciples, and is a major performer in the Tokyo Rakugo scene.


Koheita Yanagiya

1969: Born in March, Akita Prefecture 2003: Began studying under Yanagiya Sankyo, the name of his stage name was 「Sansaku」 2007: Promoted to Futatsume, changes name to 「Sanwaka」 2018: Promoted to Shinuchi, changes name to 「Koheita」

Miyaji Katsura

1976: Born in October, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo 2008: Began studying under Shinji Katsura 2012: Promoted to Futatsume 2021: February, Promoted to Shinuchi

Keiki Hayashiya

1991: Born in Ogawa-machi, Hiki-gun, Saitama Prefecture 2010: Began studying under Kikuou Hayashiya, the name of his stage name was 「Keiki」 2015: Promoted to Futatsume

He is also a tourism ambassador for Ogawa-machi and a member of the Higashi Matsuyama City Support Group, where his graduated Matsuyama High School, is located.
