A popular concert where you can casually enjoy a first class performance for 50 minutes at noon. In this Vol. 49th concert, we will be welcoming the flute members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, one of Japan’s leading orchestras. In addition to familiar instruments flute and piccolo, rare instruments such as the alto flute and bass flute will also appear, presenting a unique ensemble of the allied instrument. Please join us for a noon time to freshen yourself with the refreshing sound of the flute family to start the summer.

Artist Profile |
Masayuki Kai After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, he completed his graduate studies at the same university. Performed in the graduation concert at Sogakudo(Sogakudo of the Former Tokyo Music). Also performed in the concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of the restoration of the Sogakudo Concert Hall. Studied under Seiko Fujiwara, Sonoko Mimura, Soichi Minegishi, Chang-Kook Kim, Tomio Nakano, P. Meisen, and M. Kofler. Selected for the 61st Japan Music Competition. Selected for the 9th Japan Flute Convention Competition. Semi-finalist in the 5th Kobe International Flute Competition. In 2002, joined the NHK Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg as an overseas researcher for the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In addition to his orchestral activities, active as a soloist and chamber musician, and participates in various music festivals. Also active in teaching junior orchestras and open lessons for music students. Director of the Asian Flute Federation. Lecturer at the Tokyo College of Music, special lecturer at the Elisabet College of Music, and a central lecturer of music at Takamatsu First Senior High School in Kagawa Prefecture. Flutist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
Maho Kajikawa Graduated from Aichi Prefectural Meiwa High School, Tokyo University of the Arts, Paris Ecole Normale de Musique, and Paris Conservatoire. Won many prizes at competitions, such as first prize at the Concours Jeune Flutiste (France), third prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, third prize at the Tokyo Music Competition, and selected for Japan Music Competition, etc. With the Ensemble Mixt Windquintet, which she has been performing since her years at the Tokyo University of the Arts, won the third prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition (the highest prize ever awarded to a Japanese). Participated in the Japan Foundation for Regional Art-Activities Outreach Forum. Performed at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan’s “Ueno de Classic”, Hakuju Hall’s “Super Reclining Concert”, and other performances sponsored by the hall. CDs “Mixt Note” and “Fantasie” are currently available from Ensemble Mixt Windquintet. Currently a flutist with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, a part-time lecturer at Toho Gakuen School of Music and Aichi University of the Arts.
Hiroaki Kanda Born in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1995, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna for one year. In 2007, completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. Won first prize at the 5th Japan Flute Convention Competition and the 8th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition. In 1992, performed the first Korea performance of Jolivet, Andre Flute Concerto in Seoul. Awarded the Ataka Prize. Studied under Keiichi Akahoshi, Chang-Kook Kim, Junzo Hosokawa, Wolfgang Schulz, and Hansgeorg Schmeiser. Joined the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 1994 and is currently the principal player. A member of THE FLUTE QUARTET. Professor at Toho Gakuen School of Music. Visiting Associate Professor at Osaka University of Arts. Lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts and Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music. Also served as a jury member for international competitions such as the Kobe and Beijing Nicolet, as well as the Japan Music, Japan Wind and Percussion, and Sanda UNESCO competitions. Tokyo Executive Director, Asian Flutist Federation. Has released many CDs including 『APPASSIONATA』 and 『Mozart Opera Duo』. Arranged and published more than 40 titles of flute ensemble works, mainly for quartet, and also for duet and larger ensembles.
Junji Nakamura Born in Kyoto Prefecture. Learned to play the violin as a child, and began playing the flute at the age of 12. After attending Takatsuki Private High School, graduated top of the class at Kyoto City University of Arts, and received the Faculty of Music Award and the Kyoto Music Association Award at graduation. Performed in the Yomiuri Concert by Rookie Musicians and at the Kansai Flute Newcomer’s Concert received the Excellence Award. After graduation, studied as a guest performer with major orchestras in the Kansai region, and from 2010 to 2014, was a flutist with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra. Received the Encouragement Award in the High School Division of the 9th Biwako International Flute Competition. Selected for the Piccolo Division of the 12th Flute Convention Competition. Received the 15th Matsukata Music Award. Studied flute under Yoshimi Oshima and Tomoko Ichikawa, and piccolo under Jun Sugawara. In 2014, joined the NHK Symphony Orchestra. |
