Daniel Ottensamer & Sophie Dervaux Duo Recital

We present a duo performance by Daniel Ottensamer (Clarinet) and Sophie Dervaux (Bassoon), two young principal players of the world’s most prestigious orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic. In addition to the ensemble of clarinet, bassoon and piano, the program will be in variety, including solo pieces by each of the instruments, such as clarinet sonata, bassoon sonata and piano solo, so the audience can fully enjoy each of the instruments. The pianist is Christoph Traxler, who is a leading solo pianist and a highly acclaimed chamber music ensemble pianist.

Daniel Ottensamer (Clarinet) Born in Vienna in 1986. Since 2009, he has been Principal of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. He has won prizes at many international competitions, including the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition and the 「Animato Foundation」 International Clarinet Competition in Zurich. As a soloist, he has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Munich Radio Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and Odense Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with famous conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Adam Fischer, Ivor Bolton, and Ralph Weikert. He has toured throughout Asia, the U.S., and Europe, and has given many master classes. He has performed chamber music with Angelica Kirchschlager, Barbara Bonney, Thomas Hampson, and Bernarda Fink. He has released 『Weber and Brahms』 (Classic Concert records) and 『MEIN WIEN・MY VIENNA』 (SONY CLASSICAL).
Sophie Dervaux (Bassoon) In 2015, she was appointed principal player of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2013 to 2015, she was the principal contra bassoonist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2013, she won the second prize at the Munich International Music Competition (no first prize was awarded), and has won many other international competitions. In 2015, she also received the Beethoven Ring Award in Bonn. As a soloist, she has worked with well known orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, and Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra. Born in France in 1991. After studying the guitar and clarinet, she began to play the bassoon in 2003. After graduating from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, she studied at the Hanns Eisler School of Music and the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. Studied with Carlo Colombo, Jean Pignoli, Volker Tessmann, and Daniel Damiano.
Christoph Traxler (Piano) Born in Austria in 1983. After graduating from the Anton Bruckner University of Arts, he completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Studied under Heinz Medijmorec and Stefan Arnold. Since his debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in 2004, he has appeared as a solo pianist in recitals around the world, as well as an accompanist and chamber music collaborator, playing with The Clarinotts, Daniel Ottensamer, Sophie Delvaux, Karl-Heinz Schütz and others. He is also a member of the Philharmonics, an orchestra composed of members of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. Since 2016, he has also been teaching younger students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. |
