Kick off 2025 with laughter at the New Year Special Rakugo Performance, a carefully curated selection of rakugo storytelling performances.
This year’s lineup features guest performer Risho Takigawa, alongside Shoshi Tachikawa, recipient of the 2008 Sainokuni Rakugo Grand Prize, as well as Ryushi Shunpūtei and Noboru Sekiseki-tei. From seasoned veterans to rising stars, this diverse group of rakugo masters promises an unforgettable afternoon of storytelling and humor.

Artist Profile

Risho Takigawa (Guest)

• Born: 1953, Shizuoka Prefecture
• 1975: Apprentice to the 8th Koyanagi-ei, given the name Shunpūtei Yanagawaka.
• 1977: Joined Shunpūtei Yanagō school.
• 1980: Promoted to Futatsume rank, took the name Shunpūtei Aikyo.
• 1990: Promoted to Shin’uchi rank, renamed Shunpūtei Risho.
• 2005: Adopted the current name Takigawa Risho.


Shoshi Tachikawa

• Born: 1963, Fukuoka Prefecture
• 1988: Apprentice to Danshi Tachikawa, given the name Tachikawa Eishi.
• 1997: Promoted to Futatsume rank.
• 2008: Promoted to Shin’uchi rank, renamed Tachikawa Shoshi.
• 2009: Awarded the 2008 Sainokuni Rakugo Grand Prize.


Ryushi Shunpūtei


• Born: 1981, Tokyo
• 2006: Apprentice to Shōchō Shunpūtei, given the name Shotarō.
• 2009: Promoted to Futatsume rank.
• 2021: Promoted to Shin’uchi rank, succeeded the name 9th Shunpūtei Ryushi.


Noboru Sekiseki-tei

• Born: 1990, Fukuoka Prefecture
• 2016: Apprentice to Momotarō Sekiseki-tei III, given the name Zentarō.
• 2020: Promoted to Futatsume rank, took the name Noboru Sekiseki-tei.
