Patricia Kopatchinskaja (Violin)

profile

Born in Moldova, Patricia Kopatchinskaja studied composition and violin in Vienna and Bern. Winner of the 2000 Schering International Competition, she has earned numerous accolades. A passionate advocate for 20th and 21st-century music, she frequently collaborates with contemporary composers and has performed with leading orchestras, conductors, and at international festivals worldwide.
Her works include environmentally themed performances like Les Adieux with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Dies Irae at the COP26 Summit. She has also showcased her vocal versatility in productions like Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre. With over 30 recordings, her Grammy-winning Death and the Maiden with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra remains a highlight. Her semi-staged version of the work with Camerata Bern further solidifies her global reputation.

Founded in 1962 in Bern, Switzerland, Camerata Bern is an acclaimed chamber orchestra known for its 15 soloists and conductor-free performances. While upholding artistic excellence and tradition, the ensemble consistently explores new frontiers in music.
Under Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s artistic partnership since 2018, the orchestra collaborates with world-class artists and composers, producing award-winning recordings. Their projects, including Plaisirs illumines and Maria Mater Meretrix, have earned international acclaim. Camerata Bern is also deeply committed to music education for children, fostering a love for the art form across generations.
