Naoki Hayashida (Music journalist and critic)

 

Classical music and talk show – “Eleven Classics” is a series that packs a lot of musical attractions into a compact time. Naoki Hayashida, a music journalist, navigates the series. He is also a radio personality, will guide you through the deep and wide world of music with his rich and varied knowledge and entertaining stories.

In Vol. 5, we welcome guitarist Yasuji Ohagi, whose gentle and warm tone continues to attract fans in Japan and around the world. Joining together will be Seiichiro EDO, a flutist who boasts a wide repertoire with a diverse range of expression. The two have performed together many times and their CD released last year has been well received.

Please come and experience the delicate yet soothing sound world of guitar and flute in the intimate sound of the Theatre’s Music Hall. And enjoy a luxurious moment on a weekday morning.

Artist Profile

Yasuji Ohagi / Guitar
Studied at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Musique in Paris and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Won the second prize at the Havana International Guitar Competition and the “Leo Brouwer Prize,” a special jury prize. Then spent four years studying with Oscar Ghiglia at the Chigiana Conservatory in Italy, where he received the best diploma for four consecutive years. Studied guitar under Hiroshi Hagiwara, Yoshihisa Nakano, Shinichi Fukuda, Carrel Alms, Alberto Ponce, and Olivier Chassin; solfege with Junnosuke Yamada; lute, theorbo, and baroque guitar with Eric Belloc; chamber music with Laszlo Adadi. Has made numerous media appearances, including NHK’s “La La La♪ Classic,” MBS’s “Jounetsu Tairiku,” and TV Asahi’s “Daimei no Nai Ongakkai”. In recent years, performed the “Aranjuez Concerto” with the NHK Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Michiyoshi Inoue) to great acclaim in 2019, and is regularly invited to major music festivals such as La Folle Journée TOKYO, Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival, Kirishima International Music Festival, and Miyazaki International Music Festival. Also been invited to international festivals in Moscow, Colombia, Cuba, and Taiwan as a soloist and master class instructor. In 2020, celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut. Received the 6th Hotel Okura Music Award and the 18th Idemitsu Music Award. Visiting professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and Osaka College of Music. Born in Miyazaki.

Seiichiro EDO / Flute

Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, Faculty of Music, and completed the doctoral program of the Graduate School of Music, Kyoto City University of Arts. He studied under world-renowned flutist Patrick Gallois at the Conservatoire National de Musique Aulnay-sous-Bois in France and graduated from the same school with first prize unanimously awarded by the jury. Was a finalist in the Tansman International Competition (Poland), first prize in the Picardy Music Competition (France), first prize in the Le Parnasse Flute Competition, first prize in the UFAM International Music Competition, and many other competitions with excellent results. Since 2007, has been a flutist with The College Opera House Orchestra, participating in numerous performances, including operas. Also a member of the “Ensemble Lunette”, a performance group of four flutists wearing glasses, which performs throughout Japan and has been invited by overseas flute festivals. In 2013, won the first prize in the Ensemble Award Division of the 16th Japan Flute Convension Competition. Released a total of 7 CDs from Studio N.A.T. Awarded the 2016 Itami City Artists Association Newcomer Award. Part-time lecturer at Osaka College of Music. Director of the Asian Flute Federation.

 


Naoki Hayashida / Navigator
Born in 1963, Saitama Prefecture. Music journalist and critic. Has written on a wide range of subjects centered on classical music, including opera, ballet, ancient music, and modern music. He is the author of “René Martin: The Art of Producing”(Artes Publishing) and other books. Appeared on the Internet radio program “OTTAVA” and “Cafe Figaro”. Serialized in the monthly magazine ” Fujin Gaho” and other publications. He is also an editorial advisor for the “Web Magazine ONTOMO”(ONGAKU NO TOMO SHA).
