Since its formation in April 2006 with 48 members, Saitama Gold Theatre has been continuing to stand on the stage carrying the realities of life, using its presence as a living person different from professional actors.
After 15 years since its formation, Gold Theatre announced its dissolution in August of this year, and for its final performance, the group will welcome an up and coming director Kunio Sugihara to present the silent play『Water Station』, one of the representative works of Shogo Ota, who led the Tensho Theatre.
This work, which has been performed many times overseas, was inspired by Ota’s childhood experience of defeat in the war and repatriation from China, and the images he saw of people walking endlessly carrying large bags.
『Water Station』moves at an extremely slow pace, without any dialogue and in complete silence. Looking closely at the human figures that come and go at the watering hole, a dense time is created, and the richness of life that cannot be summarized in the time we live emerges.
In addition to the 2019 production of KUNIO14’s『Water Station』, the same actress Himawari Inoue will be playing the role of the young girl at the Saitama Gold Theater. So please look forward to the play!
Summary
A thin stream of water continues to flow from a tap with a broken handle. In the silence, could only hear the sound of water dripping from the faucet. There are piles of waste dumped by countless people who have passed through here.
All kinds of people with their luggage visit this watering hole. There were those who fought for the water carelessly, those who stared at the water, and those who washed themselves off. They approached, touched the water, and eventually left the watering hole to go to their own places.
